Our History

Spectrum Fire  is now entering its 30th year of operations within fire & life safety systems and protection. We are a family run business located centrally within the UK with the ability to deliver national coverage.

1989

Spectrum Fire Protection was initially formed by our current Chairman – Allan Kerman in January 1989. The business operated to provide commercial premises the design, installation and commissioning of portable fire extinguishers & fixed fire extinguishing systems. By 1990, Spectrum achieved ISO 9001 (formerly BS 5750) & BAFE (BRITISH APPROVALS FOR FIRE EQUIPMENT) certification through BSI.

1994

During the period to-date from 1989, major changes have taken place within the Company which included the appointment of additional Directors and the opening of a new Head Office in Aston..

Our current Managing Director – Paul Kerman created the fire and emergency alarm systems division to bring all services and systems support “in house”

2004

Throughout 2004 steady growth of the business was achieved. Spectrum were proud to announce that they are the first fire protection company to gain BAFE SP203 “All modules” for fire detection and alarm design, installation, maintenance and verification through BSI product services. Our project and service portfolio increased in covering national accounts and special risk applications.

The scope of our ISO 9001 certification was increased to cover fire detection and alarms, emergency lighting, care communications, fixed fire suppression, pre-action, deluge, commercial and residential sprinklers.

Spectrum moves into new business premises located in Aldridge  to accommodate both a larger stock holding and increase in Spectrums business activities.

2007

In January 2007, Spectrum started the mechanical side of the business and gained LPS 1048 accreditation within the first 6 months of operation. Contracts such as Toyota  Manufacturing and Rolls Royce PLC were secured on both service and projects installation.

2014

A new purpose built extension was completed to accommodate our expanding stock holdings.

Expansion to our design and estimating personnel, installation projecting staff and service and maintenance control teams was successfully rolled out .

Our mechanical sprinkler division retained its LPS 1048 competency through the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB)

2017

Our head offices had a full refurbishment and restructure to accommodate our expansion of our in-house  Research and Development Facility.

The acquisition of GS Fire Protection Services is completed which expands Spectrums current service base into Airports within the U.K.

Key projects completed on our mechanical side include Oxford Schools fire sprinkler design, installation and commissioning under the LPS 1048 scheme.

LPS 1204 for the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and verification for fixed gaseous fire fighting systems accreditation is gained.  Key projects completed under the LPS1204 scheme include the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and verification of  gaseous fire fighting systems include Birmingham Airport, Howdens Joinery and Toyota Manufacturing Facility.

Key projects completed under BAFE SP203 scheme for the design, installation, commissioning and verification include Hozelock Manufacturing, Toyota Manufacturing, King Edwards Schools.

Our Research and Development team are working on new technologies that encompass all parts of fire and life safety systems using smartphones, tablets and PCs.

2018

Continuing growth within our bespoke M&E fire projects using new and unique technologies has rewarded Spectrum during 2018 enabled us to secure major projects and service contracts.

Our third party certification awards during 2018 include:

ISO 9001: 2015 with LPCB / BRE (Building Research Establishment) – This now encompasses all of our third party product and management company certifications.

Investors In People was first awarded to Spectrum in 2011. The new standard and setup came into force to which Spectrum has achieved the criteria requirements to “developed” status.  We shall be progressing further with the standard during 2019 with a target of reaching “Established” status.

We extended our scope within LPS 1204 to include Fixed Gaseous Fire-Fighting Systems.

BAFE SP101  –  Service and Commissioning of Portable Fire Extinguishers . Spectrum are proud to be the only U.K fire protection business certified by the ( Loss Prevention Certification  Board (LPCB) for the service and commissioning of portable fire extinguishers

Our head office offers design and estimating personnel, sales engineers, installation projecting staff and service and maintenance control teams.

Spectrum offer a full 24 hour 365 day manned call out service and the department has a team of engineers who are equipped to deal with most emergencies. The business operates a business management system to provide ‘finger tip’ access to information relating to the status, programming and historical information of all Engineering activities.

The current Company structure, includes Research and Development, Bespoke system manufacturing, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance to fire and life safety systems.

Spectrum has built its reputation on solid and reliable systems meeting the needs of a variety of applications. We are able to offer a full package to our clients from planning and design, optional installation and project management, through to the commissioning and maintenance.
