Spectrum Fire Protection (UK) Ltd have supplied, installed the fixed fire fighting C02 mechanical and electrical package at the new refuse derived fuel (RDF) facility in Runcorn.
The £452m power plant is protected by a fixed fire fighting C02 system and was commissioned by Spectrum during June 2014.
The project involved the installation of a full mechanical and electrical containment system within the thermal gas turbine enclosure complete with extinguishant control equipment and nozzles.
A full room integrity test was undertaken to validate the C02 design concentration levels.
Operator Viridor confirmed that the plant will be one of the largest and most efficient energy from waste plants in Europe and once fully operational, and will be capable of generating up to 70MW of electricity and up to 51 MW of heat.
