Our History

Spectrum Fire Protection (UK) Ltd has a quarter century of history  within fire & life safety systems and protection. We are a family run business located centrally within the West Midlands.

1989

Spectrum Fire Protection was initially formed by our current Chairman – Allan Kerman in January 1989. The business operated to provide commercial premises the design, installation and commissioning of portable fire extinguishers & fixed fire extinguishing systems. By 1990, Spectrum achieved ISO 9001 (formerly BS 5750) & BAFE (BRITISH APPROVALS FOR FIRE EQUIPMENT) certification through BSI.

1994

During the period to-date from 1989, major changes have taken place within the Company which included the appointment of additional Directors and the opening of a new Head Office in Aston, West Midlands.

Spectrum Fire Protection (UK) Ltd was formed.

Our current Managing Director – Paul Kerman created the fire and emergency alarm systems division to bring all services and systems support “in house”

2004

During the year 2004 and from the continuous growth of the business, operations of the company were revised. Spectrum the first fire protection company to gain BAFE SP203 “All modules” for fire detection and alarm design, installation, maintenance and verification through BSI product services. Our project and service portfolio increased in covering national accounts and special risk applications.

The scope of our ISO 9001 certification was increased to cover fire detection and alarms, emergency lighting, care communications, fixed fire suppression, pre-action, deluge, commercial and residential sprinklers.

Spectrum moved into new business premises located in Aldridge, West Midlands to accommodate both a larger stock holding and increase in Spectrums business activities.

2007

In January 2007, Spectrum started the mechanical side of the business and gained LPS 1048 accreditation within the first 6 months of operation. Contracts such as Toyota UK Manufacturing and Rolls Royce PLC were secured on both service and projects installation.

2014

A new purpose built extension has recently been completed to accommodate our expanding stock holdings.

Our head office offers design and estimating personnel, sales engineers, installation projecting staff and service and maintenance control teams.

Our mechanical sprinkler division achieves level 3 competency through the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB)

Spectrum offer a full 24 hour 365 day manned call out service and the department has a team of engineers who are equipped to deal with most emergencies. The business operates a business management system to provide ‘finger tip’ access to information relating to the status, programming and historical information of all Engineering activities.

The current Company structure, includes Research and Development, Bespoke system manufacturing, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance to fire and life safety systems.

Spectrum has built its reputation on solid and reliable systems meeting the needs of a variety of applications. We are able to offer a full package to our clients from planning and design, optional installation and project management, through to the commissioning and maintenance.
